The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

There’s nothing that’s easy about today’s featured eighth race in Hallandale, a $35,000 claimer for fillies and mares going 1-1/16 miles on the turf course, providing atmospherics allow.

Horses are in various stages of their form cycles and several are in new barns, some droppers and some on a slight rise. even race dynamics are tricky with several tactical types, stalker and late runners.

We’ll keep in simple and settle on Alpha Babe (7-2) based on a good good effort two back before being overmatched vs. a higher, tougher starter group, in which she was unenergetically handled in the last half mile.

At Belmont, SEP 30, Race 9–for those who want to make up their own minds–she had a good inside speedy trip after recovering from a stumbling start, took the lead leaving the turn, and held gamely to the end.

She was claimed from that race from Jeremiah Englehart, who drops her for her second start off the claim, a 27% angle for the barn, and enters here fresh with a series of six works getting her fit for today.

Should the race be transferred to the Tapeta track, she’s bred on both sides to handle the transition.

We’re taking Alpha Babe to win at 3-1 or greater and quinellas with recent Dubb/Maker claim Miss Delicious (9-2) on the rail with Paco, and Systematic (3-1) who should benefit from her GP debut and switch to Irad Ortiz, suggesting rating tactics today.
