In today’s fifth race from Oldsmar, we have an opportunity to look like a genius or a fool and we’ve had experience with both, mostly the latter of late. No guts, no glory, right?
It’s not so much what happened to Barrel of Destiny (8-1) it’s what didn’t. It didn’t because she never had a chance, never given a chance to show what she could do in her third start since September.
Just check out RACE 5 on JAN 22 on the Tampa Bay Today Video on out homepage. She was handled as if the rider only wanted to get reacquainted with the five year old, New York-bred mare.
Scotty Spieth had an opportunity to seize good position into the first turn but declined. Riding the filly out on the backside he found himself between rivals and remained surrounded. At headstretch he remained behind horses, never giving her a chance to make a clear, outside rally.
He gets the the re-ride on a filly which he rode to victory, here at this time last year. Blinkers, absent for her last two starts, are back on and she’s back in trainer Anthony Granitz’s barn, who saddled her to victory here last year. Early line odds are fair enough to take a gamble.
Taking her to win and place at 6-1 or greater; passing on the exacta in where most seem to have a chance.
