Today seventh at Gulfstream at Tapeta track for maiden allowance types going 1-1/16 miles figures to be trip dependent. And with all the riding talent signed on , it will be a battle of wits and whips.
Two horses impressed favorably in their latest races, My Romeo Lima (3-1) and Roadtriptonowhere (9-2). That is not to say it’s a two-horse affair, only the likelihood the the post time favorite’s odds will be playable.
My Romeo Lima (3-1) saved ground at no point in his debut. The $600K auction purchase, chased the pace three to four wide throughout was forced to move on the far turn to hold his ground when a rival moved up outside, battled head to head through the lane but tired understandably, beaten two lengths.
The switch to Luis Saez promises that at some point he will save ground and can easily prove best with a target and last-run finish.
Roadtriptonowhere had a similar journey and was grinding his way toward the lead when the winning Coleridge absolutely flew by as if dropped in at the eighth pole to win going away in an awesome performances. But don’t take our word; check Gulfstream Park, FEB 5, Race 6 and see.
Indeed, that was turf but ran well enough on the synth at Presque Isle indicating he can and will handle it. That was at 5 furlongs and his pedigree says he will covert every inch of today’s added distance. he has already improved since moving into the Guadalupe Preciado barn. The switch to Paco Lopez augurs well.
We’re going to trust that My Romeo Lima has a bit more upside and with his trip over today’s surface the son of Malibu Moon will improve in distance start number two, benefitting from a tad more ground to work with today.
In pedigree we trust. Taking My Romeo Lima to win at 3-1 or greater, a quinella with Roadtriptonowhere, Allegorical (6-1) [blinkers removed] and adding Ridewiththedevil (12-1), first-time-Lasix, to the super-exotics mix.
