SPA THURSDAY: CRYSTALLE

This is becoming old hat; taking maidens against winners in juvenile stakes going long on turf at Saratoga. But Crystalle (3-1) in only a maiden in the strictest sense.

Filly proved much the best winning on debut but was, in our view, unjustly disqualified for lugging in in deep stretch, causing a rival to steady his mount as Crystalle was drawing off to an open lengths score.

Whatever Rules Category was employed by the Saratoga stewards on AUG 4, racing justice was not served. It was definitely a play-on situation as the Palace Malice filly came from last, flying by for the comprehensive win.

Her Thoro-Graph figure was co-fastest in the race and John Kimmel has positive stats with second-time-career starters and in non-graded stakes. The switch to Joel Rosario is a positive one.

Taking Crystalle to win, looking for 5-2 or more straight, and will key box exactas with visually impressive state-bred maiden breaker English Breeze (5-1), and Sweet Melania (9-5), exiting a key race.
