The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

The Gulfstream finale for maiden claiming fillies going one mile on the turf is a good way to end the day, such is the open nature of this event.

Given their running lines, any of these look like the same horse but two separate themselves from the group, and Wow Lucky (4-1) and Skinny Cosmo (7-2) each raced well in their turf debuts on this course.

‘Cosmo’ adapted to her new blinkers, setting a controlled pace while saving ground throughout, could not hold off the 9-5 choice but was well clear of the remainder, including Wow Lucky.

Today, it’s that filly’s turn to get a run in her new blinkers which she seems to like, given her sharp half-mile breeze on DEC 29, seventh fastest of 137 two year-olds who worked that week.

While Skinny Cosmo had good separation with her rival last out, she had things her own way while ‘Lucky’ had to overcome a slow break when she hopped in the air at the start.

She made a strong run to reach contention but had too much to do. Today’ assuming a clean break and with Luis Saez riding her back, improvement is highly likely here.

Taking Wow Lucky to win at 3-1 or greater and key-boxing exactas with Skinny Cosmo and Spirit of Victory (3-1) dropping into a claimer for the first time for Team Klesaris/Paco, looking for their third successful hook-up of the young meet.
